Douglas County High School in Colorado faces challenges hindering its potential excellence, primarily stemming from ineffective administration. Despite the presence of dedicated teachers and valuable programs, the school struggles to reach its zenith due to lackluster leadership. Inefficient administrative practices impede the seamless execution of educational initiatives, hindering student and faculty growth. A dearth of strategic planning and vision weakens the overall educational experience, stifling innovation and progress. The disparity between the school's potential and its current state is palpable, highlighting the critical need for a more effective and visionary administration to unlock the full capabilities of Douglas County High School.
I am apart of the IB program at Douglas County. I would not recommend being a full IB diploma candidate, but rather an IB scholar (half IB). I cannot speak on the other teachers at the school, but as for the IB teachers go, most of them are great. There are a few bad ones but two of them are leaving after this year, and the others aren't too bad. The foreign language classes and teachers are universally hated. The 6 IB classes I took were: European History SL, English HL, Math A&A HL, Physics HL, Business SL, and Spanish SL. Business is very easy and useful, Math HL teacher is great, Physics is by far the hardest and assigns A TON of homework but has a great teacher, Spanish is miserable, English is a lot of busy work (at least senior year), and European History is basically just note taking . I have heard that IB Psychology is very easy. Every full IB student is required to take HL English and either Spanish or French 5, unless you have a special circumstance.
It’s a mix. The course are mild but if you take an AP or IB expect it to be really hard and you absolutely have to know which is a lot of studying. There are some teachers that can get annoyed by you if you ask questions or ignore but there are some teachers who are okay and very little that are amazing. It’s very hard to use the restrooms as they get destroyed by students which causes frequent closed bathrooms and they smell very nasty. Students like to gather up in bathrooms during passing period and do who knows what, there where fighting gangs before. I’ve heard that some people eat lunch in the bathroom, very weird. Assemblies are wild and fun, no body likes the freshman. They are supportive to there sport teams and work very hard in each sport team. There quite a bit of clubs and they have fairs where they can help you find a college and a job that you might be interested in. The campus is huge, two buildings and multiple fields with a tennis court, baseball field, soccer field.
