On Student Culture & Diversity: The social scene is pretty typical as high school goes. Most groups stay together with little overlapping of social interest. There seems to be something for everyone and for the most part theres not a lot of peer pressure. The girls seem to be more cliquey then the boys. I would say I personally haven't noticed any problems with racial diversity or sexual orientation. This is 2014.

On Sports & Fitness: We have great support of our athletics at Laney. We just got a nice new athletic training facility with a new weight room, locker room, wrestling facility, coaches office and athletic trainers office. This was in part thanks to the athletic boosters club. School spirit seems to be a big source of pride for Laney. Even the kids who are not big into athletics still come out & show their school spirit.

On Teachers: Most all of the teachers I have had are good teachers. Some tougher then others, some more engaged then others. I have felt they all assisted me when needed and took a personal interest in whatever it was that I was involved in. I always liked that no matter where I was or what year I'm in my old teachers would remember stop and say hello etc. I feel the teachers at Laney are knowledgable and continue to expand their learning just like we do.

On Academics: The core curriculum is fine and we all have to fulfill it. The teachers seem to like what they teach it's the difficult students which make the classes less enjoyable for both the student and the teacher. Some classes have light workloads but others like AP classes have heavier workloads. I think if you are going to take AP classes you should expect that heavy workload. The popular clsses seem to be given to upper class men first and then the trickle down effect occurs based on availability.

On Extracurriculars: We have a variety of after school activities from sports to clubs. One club unique to our area is the surf club. This is a great club that allows for a common interest in this area to be shared in school with peers. The teacher who leads this club is extremely supportive and a fun guy. Another club that is very popular with students is an organization called Young Life. This club is attended by students of all grades and has a good message for all. All faculty and staff are extremely supportive of this club in our school and the students love it.
