On Teachers: There are many talented teachers here. No school has 100% great teachers, but West does pretty well. It would help if there were more teachers to help decrease classloads and class sizes for the teachers. A couple of the classes I've been in had far too many students. One had over fifty for about two months before they reluctantly hired another one. Some classes and teachers are significantly easier than others, and you don't always know about it when you sign up, but all of the classes prepare you enough, if you put in the effort.

On Administration & Policies: There are good policies in place most of the time, but they aren't really enforced strictly. The dress code is the biggest example of this. The administration is okay, but admittedly, this school is a handful as far as the number and difficulty of the students. The counselors are very skilled and helpful, despite having a large number of students assigned to them. The teachers are great, for the most part, however, the teacher turnover has been very high the last few years as a result of issues with the administration among other issues.

On Overall Experience: My personal experience here has been fantastic. I love my friends, teachers, classes, and activities.

On Academics: We have two excellent academic programs, AVID and IB. If you are in one of these, you can get an amazing education. These programs get first pick of the schedule and teachers. If not, things can be hit-or-miss. There are countless dedicated and experienced educators here, but when a class has forty students, even the best teacher would have a tough time. If you want a great education and are willing to work for it and advocate for yourself, you can be very successful. If you are passive, you're out of luck.

On Sports & Fitness: The teams are good, but not great. It's the same kids who are the athletes in every sport. Game attendance is pretty sad most of the time, except when it's against our city rival. I can say that I have attended every single football game, along with the rest of my marching band friends...so that about sums up the school spirit.
