On Resources & Facilities: Long Beach Poly is not very technologically advanced, but it works for what we need. There's an abundance of college/SAT/ACT/AP prep available, in classrooms and in the offices of guidance counselors. Student tutoring is available on most days, and the library has organized tutoring with teachers and some graduate students on Wednesdays, and Thursdays after school, and Saturdays, in the morning.

On Administration & Policies: The helpfulness of the faculty in relation to breaking school policies is minimal. If you are consistently late or absent, a note is sent home to inform your parents of truancy, but there are frequent errors in this system. The dress code is rarely enforced. If a fight breaks out, the nearest teacher or supervisor is usually on scene within a matter of seconds (before anyone gets hurt), but I haven't seen anyone get punished for starting a fight. Students are most often punished if their actions affect others, or if there's a case of plagiarism or any sort of cheating in general. The most helpful member of the administration is the guidance counselor. The guidance counselor for PACE has helped every student in PACE starting in their freshman year. Now, in our senior year, she helped prepare us on the right path to college. She gave us recommendations of what to do before we apply, like scholarships, financial aid, and letters of recommendation, and which career paths would be best for us, and how to get there.

On Health & Safety: In general, I feel very safe in my school. there are armed police officers on campus, and once the bell rings for the start of school, the only way to leave is if you have a not from your parent, guardian, or doctor, if you have a lunch pass, or a free sixth period. Also, while school is still in session, you can only enter or exit through one door.

On Academics: My review is a bit biased because I'm in the PACE program, but as far as I can tell, the teachers are incredible. They care about their students' success and they don't mind explaining things over again if a student doesn't understand. If they don't have time during class, they will explain during nutrition, lunch, office hours, or before and after school. The curriculum is challenging, but rewarding. The experiences that are gained from the curriculum can help in future studies, for example, in AP Biology, there was a lab that involved electrophoresis to separate plasmids of varying size and shape. This experience is rare in high school, and I feel very lucky to have had this experience at Long Beach Poly. The work load that is given is completely up to the student, when he or she chooses the classes for the upcoming year. There are a certain number of required classes that each student must take each year, but the level, and sometimes even the teacher is the student's choice. The scheduling recently changed this year, and it's a bit more confusing. Most of the school is on a traditional schedule, with seven classes each day, while CIC and PACE have their own modified block schedule. This modified schedule means that the students in these programs have five classes a day, with the first class and the last two repeating each day, and the two classes in the middle alternating between green and gold days. the classes that repeat are fifty three minutes each, and the classes in between are about ninety three minutes each. While this schedule is a bit confusing (especially since the bell system follows the traditional schedule), one can get used to it, and I prefer it to having seven classes a day, and not being able to get the full benefit out of them because they are so short.

On Extracurriculars: If a club is not sponsored by a larger organization, the commitment is pretty low, and the administrators don't support it. That's not their fault though; there are too many clubs for the administration to support. I think the best after school activity is attending a drama production or a concert. The students in these groups work extremely hard on making their performances exceptional, and it shows. If someone isn't into the arts, there are also a lot of athletic teams that have home games to which all students are invited. These include football, basketball, baseball, swim, badminton, and others.
