High School Freshman

On Resources & Facilities: The school is relatively clean for a building filled with teenagers. The science labs are just modified classrooms, and a bit more effort and money should be put in to them (in my opinion). The college and career center is a wonderful resource for college planning, internships, jobs, volunteering, and anything in between. The technology is up to date, and free tutoring is offered weekly.

On Health & Safety: There is not a whole lot of bullying, but it is still there. There are drills for lockdowns, earthquakes, and fires run every so often. The school seems relatively safe, but there could be some trouble in the school that might go unnoticed. There is 1 police officer, which I feel is enough because more than that might be overwhelming, but there are security cameras most everywhere.

On Teachers: There are only a few teachers that do not teach well. For the most part, the teachers are helpful, knowledgeable on their subject, and willing to extend your knowledge further than necessary. The teachers develop a relationship with the students, not just on an academic level, but personal as well. Each has a pretty specific grading style and an "implied rubric" that you know to follow for the most part.

On Academics: Although maintaining As is not very uncommon, it is rather difficult to keep a 4.0 GPA. Most of the teachers are very engaging and make classes interesting, although some don't teach so well. The workload is very manageable if there is little procrastination, and teachers will always help when you need it. Popular classes include studio arts, child development, video and tv productions, as well as the core subjects.

On Sports & Fitness: As sports go, there are several no-cut sports that all can take part in, and they can be very rigorous. Football games are INCREDIBLY supported, with a huge fan base, and there is always an opportunity to increase fitness if you take it. The athletic facilities are wonderful, and they have some of the best high school tennis courts I have yet to see. The football stadium is refurnished yearly, but there is no pool, despite a very high ranking girls swim team.
