On Academics: The school offers top notch classes for advanced and honors students. However, unless you know to sign up for honors when entering as a freshman, you will not get the chance again. Also, the teachers have only one lesson plan and that is the honors curriculum. So if you're not in the honors class you still do the honors work but get no credit. Also I found the teachers very quick to abandon the student to their own resources, or whatever the parents could afford for tutors, rather than expend any energy to help the student. Then there are the teachers that actually just monitor the class while the students "self teach." For genius students who have Ivy League in mind, it's a great school with lots of opportunities to excel. For the average student, it's a struggle to survive.

On Food: Of course no school has perfect lunchroom food. Most of the time I brought my lunch since they did not always cook what was on the calendar. Sometimes they would run out of what the main dish was by the time my lunch period got into the lunchroom. Salad bars were always an option.

On Resources & Facilities: When looking at the front of Vestavia the first thing that comes to mind is one word... wow. The appearance of the school is very classy. The only thing that they need to really fix is the parking lot. They have always provided the best technology for us to use in and out of class. The counselors check on you and your grades throughout the year to make sure everything is how it should be.

On Academics: A lot of the teachers at Vestavia were the best! Maybe some were not so great. When a teacher saw you struggling they would ask you if you needed help and would offer to help you on their breaks or even when they really did not have time to help. The classes were definitely not a breeze. I personally struggled through a few classes. Math in high school was not my forte, but now in college I have already passed my math classes easily. My teachers prepared me well. We normally were given a bunch of homework, but now looking back at it having all those assignments made me a stronger student for college and now I know how to study.

On Student Culture & Diversity: Student involvement is very and was very important. The student government association knew what they were doing when organizing different events. The only peer pressure that I was aware of while attending Vestavia was positive; for example: Sally pressured Sue to study for a test. Everyone at the school was accepted for who they were and told to be their own person. The diversity in the school was rather large. Someone was always there to give you a hand when you had an obstacle get it your way; whether it be a teacher or another student.
