It's generally been good at Alpena High. Sometimes things can get sketchy with the run down building. The teachers are nice and the rest of the staff are nice as well. The custodians do a good job. The food is good for school food. The sports teams try, but aren't always the most successful.
overall I enjoyed my time at Alpena High. It is a sport-heavy school that takes pride in its accomplishments and it takes strides to involve the entire school in events like hallway decorating and spirit week. these were my favorite, kids dress up to different themes every day and have a huge assembly at the end of the week where each graduating class battles for a spirit jug in a series of games. They take a lot of pride in the fact that the students are very involved in everything. As far as academics they offered early college and dual enrollment at Alpena Community College to allow students to get ahead in college while it was being paid for as long as they had good academic standing. I have also seen a shift in the staffing and how much they care about students and making it a safe and fun place for students to learn. I would say however some updating could be done to the school, it is outdated in some areas and an update would make it a better environment for students to be in.
Chance to take ap classes and college classes as some districts in our area does not have the opportunity
