Coon Rapids Senior High School Reviews
Rating 3.6 out of 5 356 reviews
Coon Rapids High School is a strong learning environment for high-achievers, even though the physical environment is in need of improvement. In my experience, AP, Honors, and College in the Schools classes all have exceptional teachers and support for students. Students are also provided with ample opportunities to explore future career opportunities, through course pathways such as PLTW Engineering and PLTW Biomedical Science. The physical and sports environments are due for improvements, though. Facilities are certainly outdated and often unclean. Sporting facilities also lack modern improvement, and in my experience the Track and Cross Country programs lack the funding for adequate coaching. Overall, I believe that Coon Rapids is a strong school for high academic achievers, but needs improvement in school and athletic facilities.
My experience has been mostly good. They have a really good Biomedical program and other science and engineering programs. There are many clubs and sports to choose from. The school is crowded and passing time is too short to use the restroom. There does need to be improvements. There are lots of fights and drama between students. The majority of the staff is nice.
It was a challenge to get through. Strictly because many teachers do NOT want to be teachers, and they show and address that VERY clearly. But I can understand why our staff gets underpaid, and it has been that way for years. I don't think high school students such as myself should make more than the people who teach us. Besides the point, it was challenging to continue going here with many of the students wanting to pick physical or verbal altercations CONSTANTLY. Many times I wanted to just go home-schooled or switch schools, but at the end of the day, that's just how a lot of schools are around here. On the good side, some teachers make your day, even if you no longer have them anymore, many of the teachers are willing to let you bother them during breaks/ passing time/ etc. Many people don't have good stable homes, so that's why I find it so heartbreaking for teachers not to enjoy their jobs. Not to be therapists, but just to create a safe, and flexable space for their students.
