In my first year of school here I saw MULTIPLE instances of bullying and harassment. The school does not discipline their students in a manner that eliminates bullying and harassment. Students are targeted for their differences, such as being gay or having colored hair. I was walking to class just a few weeks ago, and on my way to class I heard a group of boys yell discriminatory things at a gay person walking next to me. I find these actions very wrong and insulting.

In addition, the students at this school are very rude to each other and their teachers. A majority of the students have no respect for their educators and take their education for granted. The school is dirty and the bathrooms are grotess. Whenever I go into the restroom there is rarely functioning toilets.

Knowing what I know now about the students and overall atmosphere of this school, I would never have attended. I can compare my experience at Elk River high school to my experience at Minnetonka high school (as I moved a little over a year ago to Elk River) and I can honestly say I regret my decision to attend Elk River high school and it has set back my educational and person growth as a 11th grader. Most teachers are friendly and dedicated, however the student body is dramatic, rude, and downright mean.

I am not currently in any extracurricular activities provided by the school. I am unaware of most clubs and sporting events because the school does not inform the students about most of these activities. I have friends in Speech Team, they say they like it but it is not a serious club. I have friends in Ski Team, who skip on a regular basis because it is not important to be there. This could just be personal choices (which I do not agree with), but students do not seem overly enthused about their participation in extracurriculars. However, DECA is one of the few organizations at my school that is taken seriously by most. However, this could be because it is a class offered during regular school hours.

My experience at this school has been great. Overall, it is a very friendly environment. The teachers work hard and the students work even harder. I love school wide events that bring all of the student body together. For example, homecoming pepfest always brings the student body closer. I would choose this school again because it is generally a wonderful environment to further my education in.
