Extracurriculars: My child participated in Tennis team in his freshman year. He liked it a lot. He also plays in Jazz band which is simply great. I attended V-shows and Musicals. It's amazing what these teacher did with regular kids. My son's friends are in debate club and are very fond of it. I would say, school is very supportive and allows motivated kids to realize their talents.

Teachers: The teachers know their subject. That's the highest priority for us. However, as I mentioned, the grading is not consistent. If work is between A and B the teacher always will choose B. It's so discouraging. Teaching style varies. Some teachers are really great in sharing knowledge, others will challenge children more during test than during regular class. This could be frustrating and unfair. This year, for example, each time during math test the teacher would give a problem that kids never tried in class. It just added to the stress. I am all for challenge but as an extra credit, not to verify the knowledge. Some teachers do not have enough graded activities, so it's much harder to improve one's grade. Overall, on the strong side, my child definitely got stimulated to work harder, to learn more, to participate in the discussion.

Health & Safety: We never had any issues with security. My child feels safe and comfortable in school. I don't know - do I feel this way because we have no other experience or because schools is doing a great job. The only insecurity I have is that it's pretty easy to get inside the building. With the school shooting being unfortunately reality this days, nobody can feel completely safe. However, in this neighborhood it could be adequate.

Overall Experience: I gave it "great" rating because over all this school is better than others. It has Academy - special program that gives selected , motivated kids to go deeper in Social Study, Language Arts and foreign language. What I don't like about school , and this could be true to any other high school nationally, is amount of stress the kids go through. I do not feel compassion on teachers' side. Each teacher behaves as his subject is the only one the child has to care about. In reality, at 1:00 a.m. my child is in group chat with other students preparing for some tests. The number of tests and quizzes in honor/Academy classes is insane. Kids are constantly sleep-deprived. What is worse, they are not rewarded. The teachers take pride in lowering the grade when in doubt. The child can write an amazing paper, spending long days and nights - and get punished for ridiculous technicalities of not exactly correctly presenting the cited source. It's discouraging and unfair. And it's true for every subject. My child got 34 on ACT. His GPA is not near where it should be.
