Highland Park High School has top academics. They have diversity, good teachers, and an array of clubs and activities. Highland Park High School definitely prepares students will for college; they have top counselors, great college counseling, and rigorous classes. There are many resources there to help students with school work, as well as with emotional help. I know that I feel ready to move on to college. Additionally, there are numerous clubs, sports, and activities for students to get involved! I feel prepared with all the materials I have learned, and with the rigorous course load I have taken throughout my high school.

There is a large variety of academics offered at the school. There are classes that interests everybody and anybody. Your senior year, there are roughly six different possible English classes: AP Literature and Composition, Immigrant Voices, Writing and Composition, Reading, Writing, and Producing Media, and so much more. There are twenty different AP classes offered at the high school in every academic subject: English, math, science, social studies, history, and word languages. There are three levels for every class: survey (for individuals who may need more help), normal/average, and honors or AP. The workload depends on the classes you are taking. Some people get one hour of homework and some get five. Popular classes include AP Psychology (Social Studies), Immigrant Voices (English), Introduction to Business, Business Law, AP Environmental Science, English I Seminar, World History, World History I Seminar, and English II Honors.

HPHS is a wonderful school academically. It offers a lot of AP and Honors classes that will challenge you, which is generally a good thing but the students are competitive. However, socially, it's not exactly a diverse community. While we do have a sizable latino population, there is de facto segregation in terms of the classes they take, and where they hang out in the school. The school's black population exists but is pretty small.

One of the best things about HPHS is FOCUS, an every other year program that's 3 days and 4 nights all about all aspects of the arts. You only have three classes for those days, and you spend the rest of you time going to performances, listening to professionals talk about their field, making glass or word-working projects, and a bunch of other stuff.

Another plus is Charity Drive. A charity is selected by the student body, and then, during the entire month of February, the school and the community raise money for that charity. Last year, HPHS raised over $150,000 for Bear Necessities.
