Hillgrove High School is a great school, excelling in many areas. Having just transferred there this semester, I have a sense of what other high schools are like and can accurately evaluate my current school. Hillgrove has a very broad curriculum and focuses well on preparing its students academically. The teachers are very patient, and love to interact with their students, but aren't distracted by it. They have the perfect balance between professionalism and playfulness. The facilities are very well-cleaned and taken care of, providing a great space for daily interaction. The school also has many clubs and activities for students to participate in, as well as sports. The cafeteria food is great, offering a tasty diversity of food that students line up for. My only critique is that there isn't much socialization between distinct groups of students, who tend to stay within their ethnicity. Therefore, Hillgrove should try to connect these groups, ending any prejudice between them.
I will always be grateful for the education I got at hillgrove! The teachers are all fantastic and truly care about the success of the students. Plenty of AP courses to help with credits in college. As a sophomore in university, there are so many foundational skills that I learned in high school that I truly use every day. Sure the food could have been better, and the facilities could have been a little nicer, but I never felt like I wasn’t given the resources needed to be a successful and productive student!
I had an all in all average high school experience. I took advantage of the large amount of AP courses offered as well as the dual enrollment program. While I would say that the variety of AP courses are quite nice, I do not believe that they helped or reflected the college experience in any way shape or form. The teachers were a wild card with some being incredibly helpful whilst others were completely dreadful. The same goes for the administration and guidance counseling. While I never felt in danger at Hillgrove, it would be a lie to overlook the problem it has with drugs and especially vaping.
