As the graduating class of 2024, Cabrillo High School has been quite my experience. Coming into high school during the pandemic I was doing online school until my sophomore year when everything changed. I started to make friends I met great new people and stuff while some teachers were more closed and restrictive with their teaching methods I met many teachers and staff who wanted to to succeed and help me for my future. As my junior came I auditioned and joined the award-winning Cabrillo High School Dance Company where I met one of my best teachers and coaches Mrs Keisha-Clark Booth she taught me through learning discipline a community and a space where I could express my passion. she also prioritizes our grades with weekly grade checks to make sure our grades are at our best. In my senior year, I met my favorite staff member from my college career counselor Ms Bravo she was the best when it came to keeping my college ready. What I would like to see change is more funding for arts.
My name is Frank Osbourne Russell. I attend Cabrillo High School and I am in the 11th grade. My Father is an immigrant from Jamaica with trades in construction and plumbing. My Mother is a working professional and entrepreneur.
At my high school African Americans make up only 9% of the student population, and less in the community. Leaving the campus been dangerous. One of my worst experiences was when there was a race riot at my school and black students were being attacked. I was able to run into the Boys & Girls Club and my parents picked me up. In spite of my surroundings I lead as the Student Body Club Commissioner where I manage overall club activities. I am also the Most Valuable Player and Captain on my Soccer team. My GPA is 3.7 and was awarded Youth of the Year 2024 for my Boys & Girls Club.
A great school moment was when we went to the Black College Expo and spoke with the representatives from Howard University and made Howard my #1 School of Choice.

When it comes to diversity there are more Hispanics at this school than any other race but I hardly see any Hispanics joining any clubs that represent them. There's a small percentage of black/African Americans in our school and very involved in their activities. Hispanics here want more but we get enough cultural appreciation and should do the same for all the cultures we have on our campus. That's a change I want to see more involvement in cultures and participating more in your own. Safety could change at this school too. We could avoid having students fighting since it brings fear to both students and teachers.
