L.A. County High School for the Arts Reviews
Rating 3.67 out of 5 219 reviews
I'm a sophomore at LACHSA in the theatre right now and overall it has been an incredible experience! If I was going to grade this school, I'd give it an A. My favorite part of the experience are the classes and teachers. I've gotten to explore literature and history, gain a love for math, and improve as both an actor and dancer. The LACHSA teachers and faculty have provided an excellent support system for me, as well have given me notes, advice, and lessons that have changed me for the better. The main downsides are cliquey behavior in other students and some issues with favoritism. However, those are a small part of the overall experience, and I'd say that it's a great place for kids who are passionate about the arts and want to further pursue the arts in their lives.
LACHSA is honestly... half-and-half.
The arts programs at this school are absolutely phenomenal. This school has students are incredibly gifted, as well as teachers just as gifted as the students.
School spirit is through the roof! Many events at LACHSA are student-run, featuring student performances.
Halloween is absolutely the biggest event at this school. Almost all students dress up (it's completely fine if you don't), and everyone has amazing costumes--especially the visual artists.
Another thing, there is virtually zero bullying in this school. Everyone is incredibly kind and helps each other.
Where I draw the line, is academics.
This school has probably one of the worst academic programs when it comes to high schools.
It's embarrassingly bad.
While of course, there are exceptions, many academic teachers are not very good at teaching their subjects to students, regardless of if they are kind or not.
Other things; amazing food, 4:00pm dismissal
tldr; good arts, bad academics.

While the school is an amazing space to work on your craft, some teachers lack the understanding that the students are enrolled in 11 classes at once and at times do not have the time to do certain works. I'd like to see teachers empathize with their students more as while they argue it's all about time management, the average student already has exceptional time management skills compared to students with only 6 classes at other schools, and sometimes it's just physically impossible.
