It is difficult to fully discern how my experience has been due to COVID and rapid staff changes. My freshman year was fully virtual, which dampened my ability to join clubs and start building leadership within the Ponax community. It also prevented me from building relationships with my teachers and peers. This meant that my real experience at school started sophomore year, which, I’ll say was fantastic. I got lucky with my selection of teachers that year, but the AP programs I was a part of were phenomenal. The teachers were highly engaging and knowledgable about their subjects and their abilities to connect with their students were incredible. My junior year I also had challenging courses and strong teachers, although I’ll admit I wasn’t as engaged because the courses weren’t my favorite. I am currently a senior and I’ll say the courses I’m in are far less engaging. I have teachers that spoon-feed us or have convoluted grading policies, but I think socially this year has been good.
Our opportunities to excel as students are abundant at Massaponax High School. There is availability to join clubs about things you are passionate about and even have the chance to start your own! They also have multiple course offerings, such as having the chance to take classes that specialize in whatever career you are passionate about at another school that is connected with Massaponax. These different paths have offered us the ability to maximize our learning skills. Unfortunately, the community at Massaponax High does not shine like our ability to learn does. Students are unmotivated by teachers who are unmotivated. School days usually drag on and on as we await the final bell. Classes are not as engaging as they should be leaving students bored or dazed. The school is crowded and set up in a way that feels more like a prison than a way to cultivate new knowledge. While our school has potential, they still have a long way to go to reach a five-star school.
this high school is okay, need help in certain areas but overall an okay school. Would like to see less fights and better food.
