Throughout my years at NB, I only had a handful of teachers, as do most people. The teachers I had were mostly good, with a few bad apples. Sadly, most of the math department teachers are unsatisfactory. The science and history department teachers, however, are mostly phenomenal. The english department teachers are all right.

Some teachers give special treatment to athletes, and most of the athletes know that they get special treatment, so they continuously miss assignments/do bad on tests, and they teachers continuously give them special treatment. It's an endless cycle, and it's not fair to the kids who have actual reasons for their underachievement.

There is only student involvement in select areas at this school. Peer pressure is an issue, but not as much as you would think. Often times the pressure is a friend trying to get another to join a club or organization with them or audition for something with them. Acceptance is often high between groups or clubs/organizations, but not in the different cliques within the normal student body population. There are lots of racists/ rednecks so the few ethnically unique students often get poked fun at and the same rednecks often make fun of the gays/lesbians.

My overall experience at North Buncombe High School has been very positive. The availability of courses, including AP courses, is diverse. Additionally, there are abundant opportunities to become involved in extracurricular activities such as clubs, performing arts, athletics, student government, and the like. The school staff is welcoming and encourages one-to-one tutoring before and after school to facilitate better learning.
