From North Shore Country Day School

Established in 1919, North Shore is an independent, coeducational school for students in JK-12th grade. Here, education is a student-centered, transformative experience where students receive personal attention and diverse perspectives, while being immersed in a culture of participation. One of the advantages of a school like North Shore is that students are part of a cohesive academic experience. Our teachers and administrators have developed a curriculum that takes students from one grade to the next on an intentional path to their academic growth and development. The result is that our graduates consistently tell us North Shore has prepared them incredibly well for college.

The school provides a rigorous, well-rounded education. Class sizes are small in the elementary school years so children receive a lot of individualized attention. The science and arts program are quite strong. The only areas of improvement are diversity (less diverse than private schools in Chicago due to location) and breadth of extracurriculars.

North Shore as an amazing amount of resources, well beyond what most schools of North Shore's size have. The library houses everything from children's books to antique literature from the 19th century. The athletic facilities are top notch and commensurate with North Shore's high level of athletic competition. Above all, though, are the college counselors. As a result of their work, North Shore's college counseling department has come to be known as the top in its level of academic prestige (Latin, Chicago Lab, Parker). They prepare students exceedingly well for the college process, and are a very accessible resource throughout it.

The sports teams aren't amazing by the standards of many of the athletic stalwarts in the area (New Trier, Loyola, ETHS), but for a school of North Shore's size, the teams are largely strong. Every year, multiple teams make it to the playoffs of their respective sports (usually golf, baseball, field hockey, and basketball). Nevertheless, the athletics pale in comparison to the clubs - there are dozens offered, from Happy Club (devoted to promoting happiness in the school) to PILLOWS (North Shore's own Open-Mic). Even if it happens that there's no club that you like, it's quite simple to establish one you do.
