Oak Ridge High School Reviews
Rating 3.82 out of 5 443 reviews
My overall high school experience had its highs and lows. I believe the best part of my experience was the specific faculty I bonded with. My Sophomore year PE teacher is someone I made into a life long friend. She taught me so many things academically, but was a primary support system for me during a difficult time in my life. That hands down was the best and most important aspect of my high school career. The worst part of my experience was the lack of encouragement to begin the steps towards college early. I deeply regret not setting my sights on college as a freshman, but the lack of push from my high school aided in me becoming distracted and falling behind. Although, my high school made up for that with its abundance of resources concerning college, scholarship, financial aid and internships. Another redeeming quality of Oak Ridge is its overall academics. I believe the knowledge I had access to and the level at which I was taught will undeniably assist me later in life.
My overall experience with Oak Ridge High School was great. I was a transfer from another country, and was widely welcomed positively by everyone, which was surprising to me. Teachers helped me settle in and assisted me with additional things. The teachers are very nice and I would recommend bonding with them to maximize your high school experience. Amongst the students, there is some issues such as racism going on around campus, and it is not addressed as well as it should be, which is something I would like to see change. I would also like to see more school spirit, and have events tend more towards students than a broad event that is underfunded.
During my experience at Oak Ridge high school I've met amazing teachers, students, and staff however the access to many facilities and the funding of certain programs seem to be underutilized when compared to other high school around the area. Many of the performing arts and science departments, although are great, are only so due to a stretch of private funding. I would say a too large amount goes into certain sports funding.
