Overall, instructors at Santa Maria High School are hardworking and extremely devoted to teaching. They are passionate about the knowledge they pass down to students. Our school is not ethnically diverse, more than 80% of the student body is Mexican, the school itself ranks low because a significant amount of these students only speak Spanish, or are English learners. The amount of work and attention they put on us, the students demonstrates they truly do care about our well being and future. In addition, some instructors spend more time with students and at school rather than going home because they want to make sure we understand what seems to be that tedious math problem, or motivating students to look beyond their limits to successfully pass an AP class. These teachers are there for everyone and anyone who needs their help. Not only during lunch, they are there from half an hour before class starts, until late in the evening, even night time. Their amount of dedication is indescribable! Most of these teachers teach in different ways, they acknowledge the fact that students have different ways of learning; therefore they apply activities that interact with their learning modalities. The grading process is fair and justified. They grade on the performance of the student and based on the syllabus/ contract students sign in the beginning of the year. In Santa Maria High School teachers are more than great, they are awesome, they are the superheroes that do not wear capes.

Extracurricular opportunities are varying from raising livestock for the fair through FFA , to establishing an Earth day fair in honor of the environmental club. There is a lot a student can do, and majority of these clubs and sports require dedication and focused commitment. Since Santa Maria High School is located around an agricultural environment, the students engage in the FFA club, others are devoted to the soccer team, or wish to have a voice and lead ASB rallies/activities. These are the top three clubs and sport. There is many more, one that is making a strong impact is the LGBT club, students are encouraged to participate and benefit from these extracurricular activities. The students and teachers are committed to their responsibilities when being a member. The administration does what is in their power so that these clubs and sports make an impact not only on the students, but also be effective to the community in which they live in.

My overall experience at Santa Maria High School has been great! Most of my peers are very friendly, there's lots of school spirit and the teachers are great! Our sporting events are always exciting. And our principal is very active with activities that go on at our school, which is always a great thing to have.
