Student Culture & Diversity:
As I've stated in almost every other category, the student culture & diversity is simply awful at Vestavia. If you asked any student in the Birmingham area what a "Vestavia kid" was like, they could tell you in a heartbeat. A typical Vestavia kid is rich, snobby, athletic, and surprisingly very motivated to get good grades. They also drink all the time and are typically racist, homophobic, sexist and any other type of un-accepting adjective you can think of. If you haven't noticed, our mascot is the Rebel Man and our school flag is an altered version of the Confederate flag. Last year on the morning announcements, the principle kindly asked the students to please stop decorating their cars with Confederate flags. Within seconds, I could hear an uproar of angry, racist students coming from nearly every classroom on my hall. If I had to describe the typical Vestavia student in one word, it's close minded.
Luckily, there are a large amount of students at Vestavia, so obviously not every student is like that. In fact, there's a pretty large amount of students that aren't anything like that. However, they are definitely NOT the popular kids.
