Student Culture & Diversity: We have blacks, latinos, whites, foreign exchange students, preppy people, emo people, druggies, rockers, card players, instrument players, football players, and all sorts of people, most people that I meet are friendly if you simply talk to them. Some people who are of the homosexual persuasion are not used to the accepting climate of our school and are belligerent at first as a defense mechanism which makes people not like them, but, one they realize the reasons they are being persecuted, they tend to mellow out. there is a fair amount of peer pressure to try alcohol or drugs if you are trying to go to parties, but if you invite the same people who are pressuring you to drink at a party to the mall, they can have just as much fun sober. Students are very involved and it is not hard to make friends so be wise about the friends you choose to make.

Health & Safety: There are usually only a few fights every year and they are typically taken care of very promptly by the faculty. we have two armed police officers who investigate alleged thefts and altercations. Officer Crawford can often be found reviewing security camera footage to catch a suspect in the act.

The school nurse rarely is ever there when you need her. when you finally do need her and she is there at the same time, you have to fill out sheets of paperwork and have your parents sign it before she will give you even a cough drop.

After the Sandy Hook school shootings, the principal became a lot more serious about safety and had all but two of the doors locked from the outside. this disrupts the learning process when students are returning from PE and so people usually have a friend prop open one of the locked doors so that they can get back in.

Overall Experience: This school has a great diversity of people with a large range of interests and clubs. There is something for everyone in this school as far as extracurricular activities go. for instance, I am a member of the MCJROTC color guard and Honor Guard, the President of the National Honor Society, a Cellist, a Beta Club member, A dual Enrollment Student, an AP Scholar, a thespian, member of the science club, and a member of several other clubs and organizations. Academically, westover is a great school to go to. there are classes for honors students, normal students, and remedial students so that students are put in a classroom that will move at the right pace for them. as coach chunn says, "We're the best school in the system, best school in the state"

Food: I am a vegetarian and the staff like me fairly well, but they seem to think that pizza is the only thing I like to eat. I am not the only vegetarian and I think they could offer more food options. they used to try new mushroom burgers and veggie burgers but now they just play it safe with the pizza. Do not get me wrong, pizza is one of the best foods I know of, but I like a little bit more variety

Administration & Policies: Bullying is strictly prohibited. Dress code is enforced only if you are known to not be a good student. attendance is only an issue if you cannot supply a reasonable excuse. the principal is the only administrator who can take disciplinary action against a senior. His door is always open and he listens to suggestions and reports from students. the administration might be strict, but at least they have control over the school and they grant informal special privileges to good students with no disciplinary issues. this fosters a positive, safe, and academic environment.
